Tests results from the Metropolitan Water District found nine pharmaceuticals in water at the George Jensen Treatment Plant in Granada Hills.
The local plant conducted the tests in 2006. Two drugs were detected in treated water, according to officials. An Associated Press investigation reported the test results first. Pharmaceuticals have been found in water supply across the United States.
Low amounts of pharmaceuticals were found in drinking water in Calif. and throughout North America. These results have launched further examination for scientists to detect any potential harmful effects.
The two drugas that were found in the water were phenytoin which is prescribed for epilipdy and the anti anxiety drug meprobamate, according to Mic Stewart,MWD water quality manager.
Water suppliers say the levels are too low to cause any health risks.
